Detailed Description+
The COGBAT – Cognitive Basic Assessment test set measures neuropsychological dimensions that are relevant to many different patient groups.
It is used to clarify the cognitive status of patients with neurological and/or psychiatric disorders. COGBAT is used with individuals with psychiatric disorders or organic diseases. However, it is also used with individuals subject to treatment which might impair cognition and in persons with post-operative cognitive impairments. The goal is to obtain as comprehensive (broad) a cognitive status as possible in as short a time as possible. Using carefully selected and in some cases specially adapted tests, the test set measures subdimensions in the areas of attention, memory and executive functions. Thus, COGBAT identifies those areas of cognition in which a deficit is suspected, and follow-up assessment then allows comparisons across two testing points in time (e.g., to evaluate an intervention). Correspondingly, the test set is also available in two parallel forms (S1 and S2)*. Areas identified as unusual can then be further assessed through more specific tests.
An easily understood evaluation provides a rapid overview of impaired and unimpaired dimensions. COGBAT is often used in situations in which for reasons of time neuropsychological testing has not in the past been carried out routinely, or when specific neuropsychological expertise is unavailable. For example, it is of use in outpatient psychotherapy practices, neurological, psychosomatic and cardiac rehabilitation centers, psychiatric clinics, day centers and hospital outpatient clinics. The focus is often on the possibility of reintegration to work.
A special feature of COGBAT is the global norming, which enables an individual’s results to be compared with those of a representative sample across all age groups (adolescents and adults).
* COGBAT-S1 and COGBAT-S2 are parallel forms which, for administrative reasons, are listed in VTS Marketplace as separate products. When you purchase test presentation rights for COGBAT-S1, you can automatically use these for COGBAT-S2 and vice versa.

Validation+
The test set comprises a selection of tests that use scientifically established test paradigms to investigate important cognitive functions.
The dimensions of the test set were selected in a multi-stage process. First, a shortlist of relevant cognitive dimensions was drawn up by the authors from the current literature. This shortlist was submitted to various experts for discussion and to obtain their opinion. In parallel with the selection of dimensions, a comprehensive literature review was carried out to identify up-to-date and clinically proven test paradigms. The paradigms were evaluated in terms of temporal efficiency, publication frequency, faithfulness to concept, experience of use with neurological and psychiatric patient groups, validity and reliability. Construct validity was determined through confirmatory factor analysis. Subsequent multi-center studies have shown the test to be highly efficient as regards effort and time for presentation, while identifying significant differences between healthy and depressed or healthy and schizophrenic individuals.
